Ariel Corporation Ships 50,000th Compressor

Less than a year shy of its 50th anniversary, Ariel Corporation has shipped its 50,000th compressor. The company produced and shipped its first compressor in 1968 after establishing the corporation in 1966. In June of 1978, compressor 1,000 was shipped. Compressor 5,000 shipped in 1985, and 10,000 was shipped in 1994. Compressor number 40,000 was shipped on November 30, 2012, with 50,000 shipping in July of 2015. Producing nearly 40,000 compressors since the mid-1990s demonstrates how Ariel has positioned itself to be the world standard in natural gas compression.
Ariel compressors are utilized worldwide, but number 50,000 isn’t leaving the state of Ohio. The KBB/6 is headed to Wayne County, where it will be installed along with four other Ariel units at “Mainline Compressor Station 2” as part of the 800-mile Rover Pipeline, a gas transportation network designated to transport Marcellus shale gas from Pennsylvania and West Virginia across Ohio into Michigan and Canada. The Rover project will utilize 39 other Ariel compressor configurations.
Robert Drews, Ariel’s Director of Marketing, spoke to Rover Pipeline officials in early July about what this project means to Ariel and its home state. “We are pleased to be a part of the Rover Pipeline project and to be able to provide jobs for Ohio citizens who will be responsible for the design, manufacture, and support of the compression equipment Rover needs for the project. We are committed to supporting Ohio’s natural gas infrastructure, and local economies in Ohio".
It is estimated that 6,500 construction jobs will be created by the Rover Pipeline project. Almost $100 million dollars will be paid to Ohioans for land easements, and about $135 million dollars annually will be paid in property taxes when the Rover Pipeline is put into operation.
