Southern Pines is a high-deliverability, FERC-regulated, salt dome storage facility located in Green County, Mississippi. With three caverns currently in operation, this facility is able to provide a full range of firm and interruptible storage, hub, and wheeling services.

With a strategic location and excellent pipeline connections, Southern Pines provides service to the Southeast market – one of the fastest-growing gas-fired power generation markets in North America. The facility has access to eight major natural gas pipelines serving the Gulf Coast, Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Southeastern U.S. markets. These markets are complementary to the Southeast market, particularly Florida, which is anchored by summer-peaking, gas-fired power generation loads, while the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic are largely comprised of winter residential and commercial heating markets.

When it came time to commission compression equipment, Southern Pines chose six Ariel KBU gas compressor packages, giving the station a capacity of 36,600 bkW. The equipment is block mounted, as opposed to skid-mounted, allowing Southern Pines to save considerable amounts in installed costs.
