Health Monitoring of the Ariel Compressor

The Ariel Smart Compressor is the next generation in compression monitoring, optimization, and management. Ariel’s unique electronic platform, now offered on select Ariel compressor models, features a myriad of sensors and harnesses that relay operating information to an on-board central processor that delivers dozens of data points to your preferred location or personal device. 

*ASC is currently available in US and Canada Only

 

The ASC monitors the main compressor operating parameters providing information on the operating conditions and monitoring for out-of-tolerance parameters. Such as; valve failures, crosshead pin reversal, and auxiliary end torsional vibration. 

This system includes the following scope:

 

Ariel Factory Installed Equipment:

  • Process Gas Pressure Transmitters – 2 Per Cylinder (suction and discharge nozzles)
  • Process Gas Temperature RTDs, Single Element – Minimum 2 Per Cylinder (suction and discharge nozzles)*
  • Valve Cap Temperature RTDs, Single Element - 1 Per Valve Cap**
  • Auxiliary End Crankshaft Speed Sensor
  • Oil Pressure Transducers - 1 Before and 1 After Oil Filter
  • Oil Temperature RTD, Single Element
  • Frame Vibration Transmitter(s)***
  • Crankshaft Main Bearing Temperature RTDs, Dual Element - Standard on KBC:D:F and larger, optional for JG:A through JGC:D:F, not available on JGM:P:N:Q
  • Cylinder Lubrication No-flow Proximity Switch(es)
  • Main Module – All Compressors
  • Distributed Module(s) – 4 & 6 Throw Compressors
  • Manufactured Harnesses Between End Devices and Module(s)
  • Manufactured Harness for Connecting the Main Module to the Control Panel - Available in 20 ft (6 m) and 34 ft (10.3 m)
  • *Dual nozzle cylinders have 3 RTDs, 1 suction and 2 discharge
  • **Not included on tandem cylinders with concentric valves
  • ***1 transmitter for all 2 & 4 throw compressors, 2 transmitters for 6 throw compressors

Additional Required, Panel Mounted Equipment:

  • ASC Display/HMI
  • M-Link Module
  • Panel Internal Pig-Tail Harness
  • M-Link Harness - Standard harness length is 12 ft (3.6 m). 25 ft (7.6 m) and 50 ft (15.2 m) extensions are available

NOTE FOR CUSTOMERS PLANNING TO USE AN FW MURPHY CONTROL PANEL: DO NOT select the ASC HMI option in the Ariel performance program when ordering. Notify FW Murphy that the control panel is getting paired with an ASC equipped compressor, and confirm the panel mounted equipment above is included in the panel assembly.

NOTE FOR CUSTOMERS PLANNING TO USE A CONTROL PANEL OTHER THAN AN FW MURPHY PANEL: Select the ASC HMI option in the Ariel performance program when ordering. Notify the control panel manufacturer that the control panel is getting paired with an ASC equipped compressor, and confirm the panel mounted equipment above is accounted for in the panel design.

The Ariel AFM website and mobile app are complimentary tools for Ariel equipment owners to monitor their connected ASC fleet. Data transmission services from FW Murphy are required to provide data to the Ariel Fleet Manager (AFM) website and mobile app, at the responsibility of the equipment owner.

Alarm and Shutdown signals are sent from the Main Module to the skid controller: Either the Murphy Centurion inside the module or a 3rd party controller in the panel.

Measured values and alarm/shutdown descriptions are available via Modbus to a 3rd party skid controller

Alarm and Shutdown set points will be programmed at default levels for shipping, and can be modified through the ASC HMI/Display.
