Auto Relief Valve

Ariel compressor auto relief valve image

Beginning in September 2014, Ariel will phase in the Ariel ARV along with other force-feed lubrication system changes. The ARV is an auto-resetting device that will replace rupture discs to provide force-feed system overpressure protection. In the event of an overpressure event, the ARV opens and lubricant from the pump outlet is recirculated to the pump inlet manifold, containing the lubricant. In a sustained overpressure event, the no-flow device will time out, shutting down the unit. In the case of a momentary event, the ARV will automatically reset when the pressure returns to normal and the unit will continue to run. In either case, the manually reset indicator pin is tripped, indicating an overpressure event has occurred.

In an effort to reduce pressure drop in the force-feed inlet system, the 150 microns sintered bronze filter is being eliminated. A minimum of 5 micron filtration is required upstream of the force-feed pump inlet. An un-mounted spin-on filter kit (A-0661 element) is available, PN G-24184. Note that Ariel FF pumps are equipped with an integral mesh strainer.
